The traditional "Media Literacy" conference, organized by the Media Development Agency, was held in Baku as part of Media Literacy Week.

In his opening remarks, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency, emphasized that enhancing media literacy is an ongoing process that requires the involvement of all segments of society. He underlined the importance of fostering effective communication between state institutions, the media, and society, based on sound principles.

Ismat Sattarrov, Chairman of the Audiovisual Council of Azerbaijan, underscored that media literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information.

Latifa Akharbach, President of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) of the Kingdom of Morocco, emphasized that the audience is having difficulty in identifying the correct and reliable news due to the rapid growth of the information society and easy access to information in the digital environment in modern times, highlighting the importance of enhancing media literacy.

The participants then watched a video highlighting remarks made at the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum on “Unmasking False Narratives: Confronting Disinformation” held in July of this year.

The event also featured a presentation themed “Tools and Techniques” on detecting disinformation by Tariyel Aghazada, Presidential Prize-winner and techno-blogger.

Following the presentation, a panel session entitled “Youth and Media Literacy in Digital Age” was held, followed by remarks around the topic.

The winners of the survey on "Media literacy" were awarded as part of the conference.

The conference concluded with roundtables on "Artificial Intelligence and Media Literacy" and "Media Literacy in Education".

The conference gathered representatives from the state and private sectors, academia, media, civil society organizations, as well as local and international experts in media literacy. Around 500 Azerbaijani volunteers and young participants also attended the event.

The Media Literacy Platform was highlighted for its role in advancing and promoting media literacy.
