Around 156 thousand hectares cleared of landmines to date in liberated territories, says ANAMA Chairman

As of now, about 156 thousand hectares have been cleared of landmines in the liberated territories. Over 151 thousand landmines and unexploded ordnances (UXO) were found and neutralized. A total of 377 groups are involved in the search operations,” Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) told AZERTAC.

According to him, 219 incidents of landmine explosions were recorded, resulting in 369 casualties, including 69 fatalities, from 2020 up to June 30, 2024.

A dedicated interagency Working Group on the Clearance of Mines and Unexploded Ordnance has been established to monitor the progress and ensure quality control of demining activities, in accordance with the annual demining plan.

The Working Group along with ANAMA are touring the Lachin and Jabrayil districts.

They viewed the demining operations in the villages of Jojug Marjanli and Sarijalli of Jabrayil district.
