On January 11, 2024, the management of the C and Ku frequency bands, which is served by the Azerspace-1 satellite located in the orbital position of 46° East longitude, was registered in the name of the Azerbaijani government.

Report informs citing the Space Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (Azercosmos) that the registration was approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Previously, the Azerspace-1 telecommunications satellite, launched in 2013 and located in the orbital position of 46° east longitude, operated in the C and Ku frequency bands of the orbital position owned by the Malaysian administration. Registration of these bands in the name of Azerbaijan means that the Azerspace-1 satellite is already operating in Azerbaijan's own orbit, and not Malaysia's.

Work on transferring the orbital position to Azerbaijan began on December 8, 2020 with the submission of the necessary documents to the ITU. In world practice, getting once's own orbital position is not easy and the process usually covers a seven-year period of activity. But Azerbaijani specialists completed the entire process in just three years. During this period, the Azerbaijani side successfully completed negotiations on the coordination of 265 satellite networks of 34 governments and reached relevant agreements.
