A commemoration ceremony dedicated to the 10th anniversary of 2016 April battles and to the memory of servicemen, who became martyrs during those battles, was held in one of the military units of the Special Forces, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry told AZERTAC.
First, the memory of National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and compatriots who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland was honored with a minute of silence. The National Anthem was performed with the accompaniment of a military orchestra.
Speaking at the event, Commander of the Special Forces, Patriotic War Hero Major General Alakbar Jahangirov noted that the 2016 April battles are regarded as the beginning of subsequent victories achieved under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander, such as the Gunnut operation, the Tovuz battles, the Patriotic War, and anti-terror operations and, more broadly, as the commencement of glorious overall Victory.
During the speeches, it was highlighted that Special Forces personnel stand ready at all times to execute any combat mission upon the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief for the country’s security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, and are prepared to sacrifice their lives for the Motherland.
In their remarks, family members and relatives of martyrs expressed their gratitude to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as to the leadership of the Ministry of Defense for the attention and care shown to them and for constantly honoring our martyr’s memory.
Battle participants and public representatives highlighted the historical significance and causes of the April battles, as well as the professionalism and bravery demonstrated by Azerbaijani soldiers, who inflicted crushing strikes on the enemy during those battles.
In the artistic part of the event, a documentary dedicated to the April battles was screened, and patriotic musical compositions were performed by soloists of the Army Ideological and Cultural Center named after Hazi Aslanov.
At the end, a memorial meal in honor of martyrs was served, and prayers were recited for the repose of their souls.
After gifts were presented to the guests, photos were taken.
