On April 1, Tahir Budagov, Deputy Chairman and Head of the Central Office of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), met with a delegation led by Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Chairman of the National Unity Party (UBP).
During the meeting, the parties emphasized that relations between the two peoples are rooted in historical traditions, shared values, and friendship. They stressed the importance of enhancing recent bilateral contacts and cooperation and noted strong potential in economy, trade, education, tourism, and humanitarian sectors.
It was mentioned that President Ilham Aliyev’s role in granting TRNC observer status in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was highly praised by the Turkish Cypriot people. The sides emphasized the significance of deepening cooperation across the Turkic world and noted that enhancing the organization’s role in contemporary international affairs constitutes a strategic priority.
The discussion also focused on strengthening ties between the ruling political parties of Turkic states, with the current status and future prospects of YAP–UBP relations reviewed.
The parties emphasized the importance of exchanging ideas and experiences during reciprocal visits, expressing confidence that coordinated efforts will continue to advance their shared objectives.
The meeting also included discussions on several other topics of mutual concern.
