Azerbaijan, Georgia explore interparliamentary ties

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to attend the 10th meeting of Foreign Affairs Committees of Azerbaijani, Turkish, and Georgian Parliaments.

Underscoring the significance of the trilateral meeting, the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker recalled that this format was established in Baku in 2014, and that the recent meeting was held in Shusha in 2022. According to her, the trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia contributes to peace, stability, cooperation, and economic development in the region.

Nikoloz Samkharadze extended greetings of Georgian Parliamentary Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.

The officials praised the existing high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, including the successful bilateral cooperation in developing strategic regional projects. They also hailed the successfully developing interparliamentary ties between the two countries, underscoring the crucial role of close contacts between both countries’ Speakers and MPs in enhancing bilateral ties. The meeting highlighted the existing bilateral interparliamentary cooperation, as well as collaboration within international parliamentary platforms.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova briefed the Georgian official on the situation in the region and new opportunities following the Washington Summit last August.

Nikoloz Samkharadze noted that all three countries in the region would benefit from the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing Georgia’s support to this development.

The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual concern.
