On November 13, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of the United States held an opening ceremony for its Baku office.
The event was attended by a U.S. delegation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan; Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO); and Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre (BIMC).
The delegation included David Bednar, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Jack Gerard, a member of the Quorum of the Seventy and First Counselor in the Europe Central Area Office; Miles Hansen, President and Board Director of the Stirling Foundation; and Paul Picard, a member of the Europe Central and Eurasian Quorum of the Seventy.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially registered in Azerbaijan by the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations on July 10, 2024. The local community is chaired by Olga Kimovna Guliyeva.
Participants described the opening of the Church’s Baku office as a significant event contributing to the strengthening of religious cooperation between the two countries and the promotion of Azerbaijan’s multicultural values and traditions of religious tolerance.
