The “Diplomatic World Sweden” portal, a key platform for political figures and staff of foreign embassies in the country, has published an article spotlighting the rapidly developing Middle Corridor as a modern continuation of the Great Silk Road.
The article pays special attention to Azerbaijan’s vital role as one of the key architects of this strategic route, which connects Europe and Asia through the transit zone.
It emphasizes that, thanks to its favorable geographical location and substantial infrastructure investments, Azerbaijan has become a central hub within the new Eurasian transport network. The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), now offers a profitable alternative to traditional trade routes passing through Russia or the Suez Canal. Cargo delivery times between China and Europe have been reduced to 10–15 days, making the route especially attractive amid global crises and the increasing need to diversify logistics chains.
The portal quotes Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, as saying: “The Central Corridor is not just a transport project, but also an instrument of intercultural dialogue and regional cooperation for Azerbaijan. Roads and trade routes are a logical continuation of the country’s thousand-year-old cultural heritage as a bridge between civilizations.”
The article also highlights Azerbaijan’s active initiatives in digital infrastructure, green energy, and the modernization of ports and railways. Major projects such as the construction and development of the Baku Port, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and the financing of critical infrastructure projects reflect the country’s long-term commitment to its strategic role in regional and global connectivity.
