Azerbaijan is expecting a breakthrough in its relations with Vietnam and the imminent opening of a Vietnamese embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Shovgi Mehdizada, said in an interview with The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper ahead of the official state visit of General Secretary To Lam and his spouse to Azerbaijan.

According to Report, the diplomat emphasized that this is the first visit of the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Azerbaijan since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and also the first visit of General Secretary To Lam to the country since assuming office.

"During the state visit of General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan, the two countries will have an open agenda for discussion and further development of bilateral relations. We expect that Vietnam–Azerbaijan relations will achieve a breakthrough thanks to the historic meeting of the top leaders of the two countries in Baku," Mehdizada said.

He noted that following this visit, decisions will be made to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in many areas such as tourism, education, information technology, transport, manufacturing, joint projects, agriculture, and the environment.

"One of the main areas of effort in developing bilateral relations should be the development of the younger generation through continued and strengthened cooperation in the field of education," said the ambassador.

In addition, according to him, attention should be paid to tourism and cultural exchange.

"I especially hope that in the future a direct flight will be established between the two countries to meet the growing demand for travel between them.

We also expect that Vietnam will soon open an embassy in Baku," Mehdizada said.
