Relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan are based on mutual relations that have withstood the test of time,” said Natalya Kochanova, Speaker of the Republic Council of the National Assembly of Belarus, as she met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova in Baku.
As the two conversed, Sahiba Gafarova said she highly appreciated the fact that the Speaker of the Belarusian Parliament, participated in the 15th session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). Gafarova drew attention to the fact that relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus are based on sincerity, trust and friendship.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined the crucial role of the high-level relations between the heads of state of the countries in fostering these ties, adding that high-level reciprocal visits, along with the signing of more than 170 documents, had contributed to the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
Sahiba Gafarova recalled her official visit to the Republic of Belarus last year and the meetings she held there.
She noted that if Belarus receives observer status at APA, this would have a positive impact on multilateral cooperation. Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, and the unfair attitude of certain forces towards Azerbaijan before the country hosted COP29.
The Belarusian speaker said that the full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty was also welcomed with joy in Belarus. She noted that the elections held in both Azerbaijan and Belarus last year and this year are an expression of the strong support of the citizens for these countries’ leadership.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
