Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, met with Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, on the sidelines of the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council in Valletta, Malta.
The discussions focused on the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Slovakia, key decisions made during COP29, and the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period.
The parties fondly recalled the meeting held between the two countries' leaders at COP29.
Both sides emphasized the importance of reciprocal high-level visits and the continuation of political consultations to further develop strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia, based on friendship, mutual respect, and fruitful cooperation. They also highlighted the broad opportunities for collaboration in the fields of economy, trade, and energy, stressing the need to capitalize on existing prospects.
FM Bayramov provided insights into Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the outcomes of COP29. He noted the adoption of several important decisions, including the Baku Finance Goal.
Minister Bayramov also shared detailed information about the current situation and realities in the region during the post-conflict period, including restoration and reconstruction efforts, as well as peace initiatives. He identified ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Armenian constitution and other legislative acts as significant obstacles to the peace process.
The parties discussed joint efforts in reconstruction and demining between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
