An international conference on the situation in Saint Martin, which is under French and Dutch colonial rule, is being held in Baku, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).
According to Report, the conference theme is "French and Dutch Colonialism in Saint Martin - One Island, One People, One Destiny."
The conference is attended by representatives of the Saint Martin people, leaders of anti-colonial organizations, members of the Saint Martin parliament, human rights activists, and NGO leaders.
The event will discuss the struggle for liberation from colonialism.
The island of Saint Martin, being divided into two parts, was colonized by two powers: France and the Netherlands. The colonial legacy on the island continues to have its detrimental impact in economic and political spheres.
