“The Amazon is of vital importance not only for Brazil or South America, but also for the whole world. Therefore, we need advanced cooperation and an increase in funding for the protection of the Amazon and the restoration of degraded areas,” he said.
Noting that the protection of forests needs financial support, the Brazilian researcher noted: "Our Ministry of Environment has set a target to reduce deforestation by 45% this year. We need forests to tackle climate change. Protecting forests requires significant financial resources.”
