Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Latvian counterpart Baiba Braže on the margins of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, humanitarian domains, as well as regional and international security, inter-parliamentary relations and preparation for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The two commended the level of development of the current relationship of strategic partnership between the two countries in political, economic, trade, humanitarian and other aspects. They also stressed the importance of cooperation in other areas, including infrastructure, transport and energy security ones.
Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the activities of the COP29 Presidency, goals and priorities, 14 basic initiatives, along with efforts for their practical implementation. He highlighted the Presidency’s focus on attracting financing for climate change and the initiative to establish a Climate Finance Action Fund.
The counterpart was informed about the current post-conflict situation in the region, the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the ongoing bilateral negotiation, the progress made, and the Armenia`s legislative acts that get in the way of a peace treaty, in particular the territorial claims against Azerbaijan embedded in its Constitution.
The meeting also saw discussions on other regional and international security issues of mutual interest.
