Azerbaijan, CIS explore cooperation agenda & parliamentary elections

Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister, met with Leonid Anfimov, head of the CIS PA observation mission and First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and his accompanying delegation, who arrived in the country to observe the snap parliamentary elections to the Milli Majlis.

The meeting saw discussions on cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the CIS, as well as issues arising from the elections.

The Foreign Minister described the holding of parliamentary elections for the first time since Azerbaijan fully restored its sovereignty, as an important historic and political milestone. He provided information on the steps taken to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections and the involvement of international observers in this process.

First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Leonid Anfimov underlined that these parliamentary elections were of great importance for the Azerbaijani people, like the presidential ones, and that the elections held in accordance with the Azerbaijani legislative requirements and international standards were free and transparent.

He emphasized that as the second largest mission comprising of 133 members, the CIS mission witnessed the successful holding of the snap parliamentary elections throughout the country, as well as in the liberated territories.

During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
