Azerbaijan’s CEC Chairman meets with representatives from Central Election Commissions of several countries

Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC), met with representatives from the Central Election Commissions of several countries, including Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Serbia, the Philippines, and Georgia. The delegates are in Azerbaijan to observe the snap parliamentary elections commencing today.

Panahov briefed the delegates on the election process, highlighting that 598 international observers and over 112,000 domestic observers are monitoring the elections. He noted that webcams have been installed at 1,000 polling stations nationwide, enabling direct and continuous online observation on Election Day without requiring registration.

He emphasized that 6,421,960 citizens are eligible to vote, with 990 candidates vying for parliamentary seats. “All necessary opportunities were provided for candidates to utilize all means of the pre-election campaign as stipulated by the legislation, with 305 candidates nominated by 25 political parties.”

He mentioned that media outlets are freely operating and monitoring the electoral process. Panahov also said that three organizations have applied to conduct exit polls during the snap parliamentary elections.

The CEC Chairman underscored that 54 polling stations have been established in the liberated Azerbaijani territories, allowing over 42,000 voters to exercise their constitutional rights.

He further stated that 6,478 polling stations have been established nationwide, including 6,343 permanent and 135 temporary ones. “This election marks the first time parliamentary elections are being conducted across Azerbaijan's entire sovereign territory.”

The visiting delegates commended the transparency of the election process and observed high voter turnout at polling stations.
