Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara on Tuesday during his working visit to Türkiye.
The discussions covered various aspects of the allied relations, including political, security, defense, economic, trade, energy, transport, communications, and humanitarian issues, as well as regional and international security concerns.
The FMs stressed the importance of the existing political dialogue, mutual visits, and contacts between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the development of the strategic alliance based on brotherhood and friendship between the two countries.
They hailed the practical outcomes of the Shusha Declaration, which reflects the alliance between the two states.
They also praised the high enrollment in the Türkiye-Azerbaijan University, initiated by the heads of state, as a boost to educational cooperation.
The ministers emphasized their collaboration within regional and international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Organization of the Turkic States (OTS), and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). They noted that maintaining strong relations with OTS member states and engaging in trilateral and quadrilateral formats contribute significantly to regional stability and security.
Minister Bayramov provided detailed information about Azerbaijan’s activities during its presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
He briefed the Turkish Foreign Minister on the current regional situation, including threats to regional peace and the normalization agenda. Jeyhun Bayramov identified ongoing claims against Azerbaijan’s and brotherly Türkiye’s territorial integrity, as outlined in the Armenian constitution and other legislative acts, as well as Armenia’s militarization policy, as major obstacles to the peace process.
The Azerbaijani top diplomat also praised Türkiye’s political and moral support during the 44-day Patriotic War and its active role in the large-scale restoration efforts in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region.
They exchanged views on other bilateral and regional matters of mutual concern.
