As part of ongoing initiatives by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company to raise public awareness on environmentally sensitive issues, an event titled “Go Eco-Friendly” was organised with the support of COP29 volunteers. Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the event aimed to promote the reduction of plastic waste, recycling, and the environmental benefits of reuse.
The event took place on August 23rd at the COP29 Information Centre, located along Baku Boulevard. Residents of the capital were invited to bring used and discarded items, such as plastic, paper, and batteries – materials typically considered waste. Visitors to the collection received comprehensive information through video presentations on the harmful effects of plastic use, proper waste disposal methods, paper recycling techniques, the importance of sustainable practices, and practical solutions to contribute to environmental protection.
All collected waste was delivered to “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources for disposal.
To further support the event’s initiatives, a session focused on reducing plastic bag usage was also conducted. Participants engaged in designing and customizing eco-friendly bags using sustainable materials, promoting the use of these alternatives in everyday life. The primary goal of the session was to encourage the reduction of environmentally harmful plastic bag use by promoting ecological alternatives, and to involve all members of society in making meaningful contributions to solving environmental challenges.
