Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis meets with Belarussian and Ethiopian parliament speakers

As part of her working visit to the city of Saint Petersburg, the Russian Federation, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, and Agegnehu Teshager, Speaker of House of Federation of the Ethiopian Parliament.

Addressing the meeting, Natalya Kochanova hailed the development of partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus based on the principles of friendship. The sides emphasized the important role of high-level relations between the heads of state of the two countries in the development of relations between the countries. They also praised the intensification of high-level reciprocal visits between Azerbaijan and Belarus, noting that the signed documents ensure further deepening of relations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova commended the successful cooperation of the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Belarus both on a bilateral basis and within international parliamentary organizations.

The meeting with Speaker Agegnehu Teshager, focused on the current state of and prospects for relations between the two countries, as well as opportunities for cooperation in a number of areas. During the meeting, the two emphasized that the parliaments of the two countries collaborate in various international organizations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova provided insights into the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was established at the initiative of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The sides also highlighted the activity of the friendship groups operating in the two countries’ legislative bodies, underlining the importance of reciprocal visits between the friendship groups.

Speaker Agegnehu Teshager hailed the activities of Azerbaijan's Non-Aligned Movement within the Parliamentary Network, as well as the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan during its chairmanship of the Movement.

During the meetings, the discussions revolved around the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), scheduled to be held in Baku this November. Sahiba Gafarova informed about the Parliamentary conference to be co-organized by the Milli Majlis and the Inter-Parliamentary Union within the framework of COP29.
