FM Jeyhun Bayramov informed Pakistani Deputy PM about peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia

As part of his visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The ministers first held a one-on-one meeting, followed by the meeting in an expanded format with the participation of the two countries’ delegations.

The ministers hailed the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, noting that the reciprocal visits and high-level meetings give a special impetus to the further development of relations between the two countries in all areas.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for the strong political and moral support provided to Azerbaijan during Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands, as well as during the 44-day Patriotic War and the post-war period.

The Azerbaijani FM emphasized that the principled position of the Republic of Azerbaijan related to Jammu and Kashmir is based on the commitment to a peaceful solution of this problem on the basis of the norms and principles of international law and within the framework of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The sides stressed the importance of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, information technology, pharmaceuticals, heavy and light industry, chemistry, agriculture, tourism, transport, defense, education, humanitarian and other domains. The parties mentioned that direct flights between the two countries contribute significantly to the development of tourism and the establishment of people-to-people contacts. The parties praised the development of cooperation in the educational and humanitarian fields.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of establishing the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in deepening relations and boosting mutual investments.

FM Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with Pakistan within international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.

The minister underlined that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan creates new opportunities for cooperation across various domains, including the green energy.

Jeyhun Bayramov also highlighted the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the ongoing restoration and reconstruction works after the post-conflict period, as well as the landmine problem in the liberated territories.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was followed by a joint press conference with the participation of Jeyhun Bayramov and Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
