Climate change causes natural disasters which in its turn lead to financial loss,” said Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif as she addressed the 4th panel session themed “From Good Words to Good Deeds: What Objectives can be set for COP29” held within the 11th Global Baku Forum.

Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that based on calculations, 77 percent of carbon emissions fall on the share of cities. By 2050, 70 percent of the population will reside in cities. So, the actions should be taken on climate change. Although millions of dollars have been allocated, the fight against climate change requires proper planning. Without proper urban planning, adequate outcomes will not be achieved.”

"I do believe that COP29 will ensure a plan of action at the local level, whereas the local plans identified by each country would contribute to the 2030 Agenda," she underscored.
