Azerbaijan, International Organization for Migration explore prospects for cooperation

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Ugochi Daniels, the Deputy Director General for Operations of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who is visiting the country to attend the 11th Global Baku Forum.

 

The meeting focused on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IOM, as well as issues concerning the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan this November.

 

Noting that Azerbaijan enjoys close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, as well as other UN specialized agencies, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov hailed the implementation of joint projects on improving legislation and institutions in the migration field.

 

FM Bayramov provided insight into the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts, as well as peace initiatives of Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period.

 

Highlighting the Baku–hosted COP29, the minister emphasized the significance of cooperation in a number of domains, including climate change and migration. Jeyhun Bayramov expressed the country`s eagerness to cooperate with the International Organization for Migration in this regard.

 

IOM Deputy Director General for Operations Ugochi Daniels congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29 and wished success in the presidency. She expressed optimism that Azerbaijan, which has successfully developed migration policy and facilitated the return of internally displaced persons to their homelands, would be successful in organizing the responsible event. She emphasized that the IOM is keen to provide feasible support to the process.

 

The pair also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
