Conference on “Decolonization Dialogues: Legacy, Challenges, and Progress” underway in Baku

An international conference on “Decolonization Dialogues: Legacy, Challenges, and Progress” is taking place in Baku, Report informs.

The event is organized by the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Baku Initiative Group, as well as the NAM Youth Organization.

The main goal of the conference is to create a platform for solving this global problem.

The event was opened by the representative of the NAM Parliamentary Network Rustam Mahmudov, who noted that during the years of its chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan paid significant attention to the issues of combating colonialism.

He said that many countries suffered from colonial policies and this problem persists in the 21st century.

During the four years of its chairmanship, Azerbaijan paid special attention to the problem of decolonization, he noted. Unfortunately, in the modern world, many countries still suffer from this problem; one of the states that continues colonial policy is France, Mahmudov added.

He also reminded that, within Azerbaijan’s chairmanship in the NAM, important initiatives were taken, in particular, international conferences were organized.
