An international conference “Neo-colonialism: human rights, peace and security”, organized by the Baku Initiative Group, is being held at the UN office in Geneva, Report informs.

Representatives of former and current French colonies spoke about the dire consequences of the neo-colonialism policy that Paris continues to pursue in these countries and regions.

In particular, it was noted that France grossly interferes in the internal affairs of its former colonies, pursues a policy of destabilization in these countries and at the same time grossly violates fundamental human rights in the regions that it currently holds under its colonial rule, exploiting their natural resources.

The participants noted that residents of these resource-rich territories live in much more difficult conditions than mainland France, with unemployment and poverty levels many times higher. The nuclear tests and uranium enrichment activities carried out by France in these territories caused serious consequences for the health of the local population and caused great damage to the environment. Paris also continues the policy of artificial assimilation of indigenous peoples and the resettlement of illegal migrants, thereby trying to prevent the struggle of locals for independence.

Following the conference, a joint declaration is expected to be adopted.
