Sheikha Moza bint Nasser (wife of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani) has withdrawn from her position as goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The move came after Sheikha Moza said UNESCO had failed to carry out its role in rescuing and providing relief to the children of Gaza amid tensions in the Middle East.

Sheikha Moza announced her decision during the “One Heart for Palestine” summit of the spouses of Heads of State and Government held in Istanbul on November 15.

She has worked with the UN to support global education since 2003.
