Austrian Vorarlberg State marks Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibayli

Austria’s Federal State of Vorarlberg hosted a reception featuring classical music program, marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and the 140th anniversary of genius Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli.

The event, held in marvelous 16th-century Hohenems castle, was organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria, supported by Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora, bringing together local governmental and parliamentary officials, heads of economic circles, politicians, consuls, members of local community, and Azerbaijani compatriots.

Addressing the event, Rovshan Sadigbayli, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Austria, highlighted the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic established 107 years ago, adding that it was the first state in the Muslim East to grant a voting right to women, describing it as one of the milestone decisions.

He also highlighted the country’s modern development, its growing international authority, and Azerbaijan’s contributions to global multiculturalism, intercultural and interreligious dialogue.

The event proceed with the concert program, marking the 140th anniversary of genius Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli, and 200th anniversary of outstanding Austrian composer Johann Strauss, who both contributed enormously to development of classical music.

The concert program, conducted by Yalchin Adigozalov, Azerbaijani People’s Artist, professor, featured pieces of such prominent Azerbaijani composers as Uzeyir Hajibayli, Fikrat Amirov, Vasif Adigozalov, and Asaf Zeynalli.
