Kazakhstan to set up Transport Accident Investigation Center

Kazakh Transport Vice Minister Talgat Lastayev revealed plans to set up a specialized Transport Accident Investigation Center in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.

He said the Kazakh Aviation Administration inspected the country’s key large air enterprises after the plane crash near Aktau.

"As for the air accident investigation, this parameter is included in the ICAO's Eight Critical Elements to an effective State Aviation Security Oversight System, and it stands at 51% in Kazakhstan," he told the Government meeting.

Lastayev stressed it is the lowest rate among the others.

"To improve the situation, it is planned to build the Transport Accident Investigation Center involving highly skilled professionals and necessary equipment by the year-end," he resumed.

As earlier reported, The Azerbaijan Airlines plane which was flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Mangistau region, on December 25. The plane was carrying 67 people including 5 crew members. 38 people died and 29 survived as a result of the tragedy. Among the victims were six nationals of Kazakhstan.

Earlier it was reported that the two black boxes belonging to the Azerbaijan Airlines plane that crashed near Aktau had been delivered to Kazakhstan from Brazil.

On February 4, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan has published a preliminary report on the investigation into the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190-100 IGW2 4K-AZ65 aircraft near the city of Aktau.
