Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said “maintaining and further increasing” the pace of domestic economic growth was one of the Government’s “main priorities,” according to Agenda.ge.
According to data from the first eight months of this year, we have achieved a double-digit economic growth of 10 percent. This follows an average growth rate of 9.7 percent over the past three years, making it the highest rate in Europe and the [wider] region”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the Government’s election programme, which outlines goals to grow the economy to ₾130 billion ($47.80bln) within four years and increase the national budget to over ₾40 billion ($14.71bln). Additionally, the plan aims to reduce unemployment and poverty levels to four percent.
Kobakhidze added while it was “encouraging” that forecasts about the Georgian economy were improving, the Government was “determined to exceed these predictions”, saying “this is our ambitious task”.
