In a recent interview with Report, Vugar Aliyev, the head of Nakhchivan's Main Customs Department, unveiled the region's ambitious plans for the upcoming COP29 climate conference.
According to him, the authority is preparing for COP29, which Azerbaijan will host in November this year: "To ensure the implementation of the order of the President of Azerbaijan dated January 13, 2024 'On the establishment of the Organizing Committee in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the 19th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement,' a 'COP29 Customs Commission' has been created by order of the Chairman of the State Customs Committee, and an Action Plan has been approved."
Vugar Aliyev emphasized that the action plan provides for simplified customs control, prompt service for arriving guests, coordination of staff activities at checkpoints, and placement of information about customs rules in foreign languages on electronic displays.
Among other measures, the head of the administration noted the involvement of volunteers in relevant activities at the Sadarak customs post during the event period, strengthening security measures at checkpoints, and other works.
