One in three women in the world is subjected to violence, Caterina Bolognese, the Head of the Gender Equality Division of the Council of Europe, told an international conference themed "Prevention of domestic violence: opportunities and prospects" held in Baku on December 6, Report informs.

Bolognese said that this shows how serious the situation is: "Violence is a heavy burden for society. Therefore, coordinated action should be taken to prevent this. The culprits should be prosecuted and punished. Monitoring activities should also be fully implemented. Women's empowerment should be encouraged. Civil society should be together on this issue. By approaching the issue on a global scale, we can contribute to the solution of the issue by sharing our experiences."
