Another 10 bison have been brought to Azerbaijan from Germany under “reintroduction of bison in Azerbaijan” project jointly implemented by IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Azerbaijan office.
The newly brought bison will be kept in an aviary for a while and will be released into the territory of Shahdag National Park after the adaptation period.
Since 2012, the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Azerbaijan office have been intensively working together for the reintroduction of bison into the wild nature in the country.
Since May 2019, bison have been brought to Azerbaijan from German, Belgian, and the Netherlands, and the number of bison in the Shahdag National Park has reached up to 61.
The project is expected to be continued until 2028 and the number of bison will reach up to 100.
