Iranian security forces detained five people who tried to organize unrest in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan, located in the southeast of the Islamic Republic, the Tasnim agency said, XQ informs via TASS.

According to sources, technical equipment was confiscated from the detainees, which they were supposed to use to repeat the unrest in Zahedan, the administrative center of the province, where a year ago protests escalated into mass clashes. Sources note that the attackers planned, among other things, to use equipment connected to the Starlink satellite internet access service. The equipment was transported to Zahedan a few days before, but local security forces intercepted the shipment.

The agency did not provide information about the identities of the detainees.

At least 19 people were killed and more than 20 were injured during riots in Zahedan on September 30, 2022. Then several armed men fired at one of the city’s police stations - this happened as part of protests over the death of Mahsa Amini. According to the chief of police of Sistan and Baluchestan, Ahmed Taheri, a group of believers came under fire as they were leaving a mosque located next to the site. Provincial authorities called the incident a terrorist attack.
