Sudan has reaffirmed its full support for the three flagship initiatives presented by the Government of Azerbaijan during the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Action (COP29) held last year in Baku. This endorsement highlights Sudan’s commitment to international cooperation to accelerate global efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the adaptive capacities of vulnerable countries.

The position was conveyed in an official letter from Sudanese Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, to his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov. Minister Ahmed expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Azerbaijan’s COP29 initiatives, noting their role in promoting collective action, mobilizing financial and technical resources, and advancing practical solutions that empower developing nations to tackle climate change.

He stressed that Sudan views these initiatives as a constructive step toward fostering stronger partnerships between energy-producing nations and countries most vulnerable to climate impacts. The Minister also emphasized Sudan’s readiness to support efforts to scale up clean energy investments, enhance technical capacities, and advance emissions-reduction technologies.

Sudan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anas El-Gailani, highlighted the importance of continued coordination between the two countries in international energy and climate forums, noting that such cooperation strengthens their joint contribution to global climate action and supports a sustainable, resilient economic future.
