An evening dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Abai Qunanbaiuly — the Kazakh poet, philosopher, public educator, and founder of written Kazakh literature — was held in Stockholm.

The event was organized by the Kazakh diaspora in Sweden. The host of the celebration was a guest from Kazakhstan — Kanat Tassibekov, author of the famous teaching method “Situational Kazakh Language.”

As part of the event, contests were also held, with winners awarded prizes.

The evening was attended by staff of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Sweden, as well as representatives of diasporas of Turkic-speaking countries — Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Uyghur community, and other Turkic peoples. The Azerbaijani diaspora was represented by SAF — the Union of Azerbaijanis of Sweden.

In her speech, SAF Chairperson Sevda Dadasheva emphasized that holding such events together with representatives of Turkic-speaking diasporas is of particular importance. It contributes to the broad promotion of the history and culture of Turkic peoples in Sweden, as well as to strengthening friendship and unity among the diasporas. In addition, guests were presented with an exhibition reflecting the rich cultural heritage and national traditions of Azerbaijan, prepared by Sevda Dadasheva and writer Eluja Ataly, who resides in Stockholm.

After the official part, representatives of Turkic-speaking peoples proposed continuing such events, developing and supporting Turkic culture in Sweden, as well as jointly implementing various projects under the association named “Turan.”

At the end of the celebration, the Kazakh diaspora treated guests to national dishes.
