The Italian news portal “Agenzia Nova” published an article emphasizing the significance of the August 8 meeting in Washington between Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The article, titled “Armenia-Azerbaijan: Will the ‘Trump Route’ Bring Peace to the Caucasus?” details the signing of a Joint Declaration by the three leaders at the White House. The agreement is described as a pivotal moment in resolving the nearly 40-year conflict in the South Caucasus. Reached after months of confidential negotiations, it provides for a permanent cessation of hostilities, the establishment of diplomatic and trade relations, and mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. A key feature of the agreement is the creation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), a strategic corridor through Armenian territory linking Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan enclave. This resolves a major point of contention: Azerbaijan gains direct access between its two geographic regions without relying on complex routes or third countries, while Armenia avoids permanent territorial concessions that could set risky international precedents.

The article notes that during the signing ceremony, Donald Trump hailed the agreement as a historic milestone, thanking the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia for their courage and underscoring the project’s potential to transform the region’s future. President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the achievement of lasting peace after two wars and over 30 years of failed talks, crediting Trump with achieving a “miracle” in just six months.

The agreement is said to reshape the geopolitical balance in the South Caucasus.
