Azerbaijan's Supreme Court delegation explores judicial reforms in Kazakhstan

A delegation from the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan is currently visiting Kazakhstan to study the country's recent judicial reforms.

According to Report's Kazakhstan bureau, the delegation, led by Sanan Hajiyev, the Chairman of the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, has made its third visit to Astana in the last three years.

During their visit, the delegation met with the highest judicial body of Kazakhstan. "The purpose of the visit is to conduct a detailed examination of the reforms implemented in Kazakhstan's courts," stated the press service of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan.

Aslambek Mergaliyev, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, briefed the guests on key initiatives, including the development of administrative justice, strengthening the role of appeals, establishing family courts, introducing extraterritorial jurisdiction, and improving the cassation review process. Special attention was given to the issues of enhancing judicial independence through the introduction of a new model for financing courts, refining the methodology for professional evaluation of judges, and digitizing legal proceedings.

The Azerbaijani delegation also had the opportunity to explore the capabilities of the Situation Center of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, which is responsible for analyzing and monitoring the activities of the country's courts. The guests expressed particular interest in the IT services incorporating elements of artificial intelligence and the robotization processes being implemented in Kazakhstani courts.

During their visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also plans to visit the capital city courts, the AIFC Arbitration Center, and the Supreme Judicial Council of Kazakhstan.
