“International experts from Azerbaijan, Russia, Brazil, and (International Civil Aviation Organization) ICAO have been involved in investigating the causes of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane crash near the city of Aktau. We expect the preliminary report to be officially published on our website within the next few days,” said Marat Karabayev, Kazakh Transport Minister.
Noting that the expert investigations are currently underway, the minister emphasized that they need time to finalize the investigation, as it is quite a delicate and meticulous task.
The Azerbaijan Airlines plane which was flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Mangistau region, on December 25. The plane was carrying 67 people including 5 crew members. 38 people died and 29 survived as a result of the tragedy. Among the victims were six nationals of Kazakhstan.
