“COP29 is a very important event in terms of finding answers to the climate change realities and in terms of financial commitments, which have not been met,” Michael Rueben Nyambuya, former Minister of Energy and Power development of Zimbabwe, told AZERTAC.
“So COP29 is coming at a very opportune time where we should discuss financing, mitigation and adaptation, as well as loss and damage control,” the Zimbabwean diplomat said.
He also hailed the excellent organization of the COP29 by Azerbaijan.
“I think it's long overdue for the world to take note of the fact that climate change is reality and that a lot of damage to the ecology has been done. Where I come from, in Southern Africa, and Zimbabwe in particular, we have suffered severe consequences of climate change. We have experienced droughts and flooding, which has killed many people. So the ecology has suffered a lot at the expense of human beings’ mistakes and overindulgence,” he added.
