Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, who has been appointed as Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's special envoy for energy and environment, said he would lead his country’s delegation at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, Report informs via ANTARA.

"I have been appointed by the President as his special envoy for COP29," Djojohadikusumo said after a COP29 preparatory meeting here on Tuesday.

During the meeting on Tuesday, delegates finalized the diplomacy that will be carried out at COP29 to ensure that the national goals for handling climate change remain on track, he said.

"I think (the preparations) are becoming more complete, and I am optimistic that the goals of the Indonesian Government can be achieved," he said.

At the meeting, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that at the COP29 on November 11, 2024, Indonesia will share its achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, it will outline its efforts to speed up emission reduction in all sectors and discuss carbon trading, which has been explored with a number of countries through bilateral diplomacy.

Djojohadikusumo added that at the conference, the delegation will convey each of Indonesia's achievements in meeting the targets of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) document.

In the Enhanced NDC document, Indonesia has set the target of cutting emissions to 31.89 percent by 2030 through its own efforts and to 43.2 percent with international assistance.

The Indonesian government has calculated that by 2060, the country will slash greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 103 percent.
