"We are looking forward to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Baku under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan," Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy Pope told the correspondent of the US bureau of Report.
Having taken part in the High-Level Roundtable on Climate, Peace, and Human Mobility organized by the COP29 Presidency, Pope highly praised the activities of Azerbaijan in the run-up to the COP.
"I will be in Baku on the eve of COP29, and I am very excited about it. I think it will be a successful COP. It is always important for us to combine ideas with practice. Today's meeting on Climate, Peace, and Human Mobility, organized by Azerbaijan at the UN, was very important," she said.
According to the IOM director-general, the current partnership is very important to support people around the world who migrate due to climate change and its consequences.
"Today we support hundreds and millions of people around the world, and our goal is to take concrete and pragmatic steps, without which we will not be able to achieve successful results. The main issue we are focused on together with the COP team is identifying and putting on the agenda problems that have remained unaddressed or insufficiently covered. I think that today they are looking for solutions to many contentious issues, they are looking for commitments from many partner banks, green climate funds. They are looking for concrete information and many ways to reduce the impact and damage of climate change," Pope added.
