Executive Secretary of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change visits NAM Youth Organization’s headquarters

The headquarters of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO) hosted Wednesday a meeting with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Simon Stiell.

Prior to the meeting, Executive Secretary Simon Stiell got acquainted with the conditions created in the research center operating at the headquarters. He was informed about the NAMYO’s activity, as well as the events implemented by the organization.

Addressing the meeting, Chairperson of NAM Youth Organization, Youth Climate Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova noted that the young people can contribute to addressing problems related to climate change.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev stressed the importance of strengthening global cooperation in the fight against climate change.

During the meeting, Simon Stiell highlighted the role of young people in combatting climate change, as well as responded to questions by the young people. He also hailed the NAM Youth Organization’s active role in the fight against climate change, underscoring the importance of facilitating young people to make their voices heard on international platforms.

The NAM Youth Organization was established in 2021 on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev. In June of 2022, within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Youth Summit, which brought together the youth representatives from 60 countries, the Shusha Accord (Shusha agreement) document was adopted, approving the turning of the NAM Youth Network into the organization. Currently, the organization brings together hundreds of youth activists operating in 58 national sections of the organization, contributing to the international dialogue between the NAM member states.
