Azerbaijan will leverage its experience as the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to successfully host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku this November, according to Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev.

Speaking at a climate action forum organized by the NAM Youth Organization, Minister Babayev stated, "At COP29, we can successfully utilize the experience gained during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the NAM. Azerbaijan is working to ensure that all countries voice support for mutual interests and call on all parties to fulfill international obligations in combating climate change."

The minister also highlighted the parallels between the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the collective fight against climate change.

"In 2023, we also held a summit dedicated to post-pandemic recovery. It showed us the importance of uniting the efforts of the entire world to solve a common problem and ensure that our responses take into account the individual circumstances of each country," he added.

According to him, youth, as the global leader of the next generation, can come together to exchange knowledge and develop common skills needed to address global issues.

"In November of this year, the whole world will gather in Baku to conclude the year of climate negotiations. The goal of COP29 is to achieve comprehensive results. That is why the voices of the younger generation, who will be most affected by climate change, must be heard at this year's negotiations," said Babayev.
