Azerbaijan should more actively integrate its non-oil-gas sector into the global economy, stated Ivailo Izvorski, the World Bank's Chief Economist for the Europe and Central Asia region, Report informs.
During the presentation of the World Development Report 2024 in Baku, Izvorski stressed that Azerbaijan has already established a strong position in the global market thanks to its energy sector.
"The country is a recognized global player, increasing natural gas exports to the European Union, possessing advanced drilling technologies, developed infrastructure, and strong processing facilities," Izvorski noted. "But how can other sectors reach this level? How can their integration into the global market be ensured? How can success comparable to the oil and gas sector be achieved in these areas? I am confident that the key lies in more active participation in the global economy. If integration with neighboring countries is limited, access to the global market and expansion of international cooperation is crucial."
