The current volume of surface water in Azerbaijan is approximately 20 billion cubic meters, according to Rafig Verdiyev, Deputy Director of the Environmental Policy Department at Azerbaijan’s Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Report informs.
Verdiyev made the statement at the event titled “The Role of Water Management Systems in Climate-Resilient Agriculture: COP29 Roundtable Discussions,” Report informs.
“Of this total, 7-8 billion cubic meters are domestic waters, while the remainder consists of transboundary waters,” he added.
Verdiyev also highlighted that the Caspian Sea’s level has dropped by 2 meters in recent years, and the water levels in the Kur River continue to decline.
“During east wind, the salty water from the Caspian Sea can be driven 30-40 kilometers inland into the Neftchala and Salyan districts,” he noted.
