As part of the 29th high-level meeting titled "Pathway to COP29: A Sustainable and Resilient Future," Baku hosted a panel discussion focusing on food security and the agricultural sector.
According to Report, during the panel discussions, Ilhama Gadimova, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, highlighted the significant risks posed by climate change to the country's agricultural sector. These risks include temperature fluctuations, changes in precipitation patterns, and an increase in extreme weather events. Gadimova emphasized the state's active efforts to ensure the growth of the agricultural sector, as it plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in Azerbaijan.
"Our goal is to improve the country's food security and the well-being of rural communities," stated Gadimova. "Agriculture is particularly important for ensuring food security, and this holds true for Azerbaijan as well. All farmers must change their approach. We need to stop fighting against nature and start working with it."
The deputy minister also underscored that additional measures will be presented to develop the aforementioned sectors in the lead-up to the COP29 climate conference.
Ismail Serageldin, the Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, urged serious attention to the food sector, noting that approximately 10% of the world's population suffers from hunger. Former President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, commended the decision to choose Azerbaijan as the host for COP29.
"Azerbaijan is in a position to share its experience in managing this sector, which I believe could be a very interesting task for COP29," Vujanović emphasized. "I wish success in holding this event and am confident that it will be conducted at the highest level."
Abdulaziz al-Tuwajri, former Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and member of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, added that COP29 is destined for success due to the fact that "this event will be held in a country with great opportunities."
