Greece and India should accelerate the creation of a new economic corridor India - Middle East - Europe (India - Middle East - Europe Economic Corridor, IMEC), this will be facilitated by the strategic nature of Greek-Indian relations, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said speaking in New Delhi at the international political science conference Raisina Dialogue.
Report informs via TASS that he said Greek ports can and should be the gateway for this corridor to Europe. "Since ancient times, Greece's strategic location at the crossroads where three continents meet has provided opportunities for trade and knowledge exchange," Gerapetritis said.
On the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, the United States, Saudi Arabia and the European Union agreed to create a transport and economic corridor connecting India with Middle Eastern and European countries. The project involves the construction of a railway network and the development of port infrastructure. Due to this, project participants intend to increase the capacity of routes for transporting export and transit cargo. The parties signed a corresponding memorandum of understanding. According to the plan, the corridor would extend from India to Europe through the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel and Greece.
