Minister: By 2028, Azerbaijan will provide 30% of its energy needs from renewables

Azerbaijan can achieve the goal of meeting 30% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2028, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said during the panel discussions “COP28 and the road ahead” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Report informs.

 

“Azerbaijan has set a goal of obtaining 30% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2030. We are already well ahead of this goal. If we continue at this pace, we can achieve our goal sooner - by 2028,” the minister said.

 

According to the Energy Ministry, the technical potential of Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sources is 135 gigawatts onshore and 157 gigawatts offshore. The economic potential of renewable energy sources is 27 gigawatts, including 3,000 megawatts of wind energy, 23,000 megawatts of solar energy, 380 megawatts of bioenergy potential. The potential of mountain rivers is estimated at 520 megawatts.
