The volume of cargo transportation through the North-South International Transport Corridor has surpassed 10 million tons, announced Shahriyar Afandizadeh, Iran's Deputy Minister of Transport and Urban Development. He highlighted ongoing efforts to further enhance cargo transportation.
Afandizadeh underscored that upon the completion of the Rasht-Astara segment of the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara (Iran) – Astara (Azerbaijan) railway, a pivotal component of the North-South International Transport Corridor, the transit freight volume is anticipated to reach 15 million tons. The deputy minister highlighted that during a meeting in Baku in September of last year, official representatives from Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia discussed this issue. They decided to enhance mutual cooperation with the aim of achieving a transit freight volume of 15 million tons.
Afandizadeh expressed confidence that the Rasht-Astara railway's construction will facilitate swift, efficient, and high-quality transportation, consequently contributing to the anticipated increase in volume.
The Qazvin-Rasht section of the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara (Iran)-Astara (Azerbaijan) railway is operational, while construction activities are progressing in the Rasht-Astara section.
