Islam Bazarganov (57 kg) has secured the European title at the European Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania.
In a high-stakes final, Bazarganov faced Russia’s Musa Mekhtikhanov, successfully avenging his defeat from last year’s World Championships. He dominated the opening period, establishing a commanding 8:0 lead. Despite a late push from his opponent in the second half, Bazarganov held on to win 8:6, marking his first-ever gold medal in the senior category.
The sixth day of the competition also saw success for Dzhabrail Gadzhiev (79 kg), who achieved a career-best result. Gadjiev delivered a decisive 8:0 victory over North Macedonia’s Rasul Shapiev to claim the bronze medal.
