A comprehensive report highlighting the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation has been broadcast on the Euronews channel, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in international aquatic sports. The report centered on the high-level visit of Thomas Konietzko, President of the International Canoe Federation (ICF), and Jean Zoungrana, President of the European Canoe Association (ECA), to Azerbaijan to evaluate the nation’s professional sporting infrastructure. During their mission, the international sports leaders toured the federation's administrative facilities, the Baku Rowing and Canoe Sports Club, and the renowned "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, which is recognized globally for its year-round training capabilities.
A pivotal segment of the visit focused on the future of the Sarsang Reservoir as a world-class venue for water sports. Following the recent liberation and restoration of the region, the reservoir has been identified as a prime location for high-altitude international rowing and canoeing competitions. This inspection by the ICF and ECA leadership was organized by the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation as a direct response to President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks at an event dedicated to the sports results of 2025. During that speech, the head of state emphasized that the potential of the Sarsang Reservoir for hosting elite water sports is highly valued and should be integrated into the country's international sporting calendar.
